About GEAR UP

What is GEAR UP?

San Jose State University GEAR UP Community Achievement Project (2008-2014) is a federally funded, six year partnership grant that targets 9th grade students that attend Lincoln and San Jose High School in the San Jose Unified School District.  The primary goals of the grant are to increase student academic performance and preparation for post secondary education, increase high school graduation rate to 80% and post secondary education college enrollment to 70%, and to educate students and families about post secondary options, resources, and support services. GEAR UP provides a set of comprehensive services for students and their families. Our services include:  academic preparation, counseling, student and parent workshops, tutoring, field trips, and summer and after school programs.  Services are thoughtfully designed by University faculty and taught by highly educated, skilled and trained staff equipped to deliver high quality activities that will prepare GEAR UP students for the rigors of post secondary education.
